Chesapeake Bay, Solomons Island
Solomons Island, MD is located on Route 2-4 in Calvert County where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay. This tiny harbor village, established in 1867, is separated from the "mainland" by a mere 23 foot long causeway but crossing it is like stepping into a mini-resort paradise.
The island may be small, scarcely over a mile long, but from the moment you park your car you will find an abundant list of activities all within a short walking distance: fishing and crabbing along the pier, boating, cruising, shopping, dining or just leisurely walking along the Solomons Riverwalk. The island has many restaurants and bars that feature live entertainment, music and dancing. Of course our main interest is the fine fishing that Solomons has to offer.
Solomons Island is also home to the infamous Tiki Bar, an open air bar whose annual reopening in mid-April has come to symbolize the unofficial beginning of the Trophy Stripper season. Thousands of visitors flock from near and far to celebrate the event, it is a real happening and is always on the Friday before the Saturday opening of the Trophy season.
Solomons is a great fishing destination. It is one of the narrowest parts of the bay and therefore give us plenty of depth changes in which to find the targeted Stripped Bass and believe me - they like the area as well.
