Chesapeake Bay, Solomons Island
The following will provide you with a brief description of a day charter fishing on the "Muff Diver". Plus some recommendations to make your trip one you'll have fond memories of.
The day or evening before your trip you may want to check and make sure you have the following items ready for the morning: camera, film, suntan lotion (NO OIL PLEASE!), jacket (for chilly mornings or as a cover up from the sun), sunglasses (polarized are best), and a hat. Hopefully, it will be a bright, sunny day and those items will make for a more comfortable trip. You may want to consider an over-the-counter motion sickness remedy if you're prone to the quezzies. I recommend one just before bed and one just as soon as you get up the morning. Keep the drinking in check the night before - it's amazing how much that helps to insure a good day. "WHITE SOLE" deck shoes or sneakers only, please! Something that will not leave black scuff marks on the deck. NO BOOTS, WORK SHOES, BLACK SOLE OR HARD SOLE SHOES!
Your trip begins at the time on the schedule for your type of trip. All bait and tackle is provided by the boat as well as ice to keep your catch in top shape during the day. You should bring a good, solid cooler for your own food and drink. It is OK to feed the Captain and Mate.
We troll artificial lures. Twelve to Sixteen rods are normally in use. We provide the tackle and bait but you may, of course, bring your own tackle.
April and May - November and December we are charter sportfishing in the Chesapeake Bay, normally from Solomons Island in lower Calvert County.
June thru October we are charter sportfishing from the White Marlin Marina on Somerset Street in Ocean City, Maryland. Starting in June we begin to catch Mako, Thrasher and Blue shark along with slammer Bluefish. Tuna arrive in June as well. Yellowfin early and Bluefin later. Mid-July thru Mid-September, look out - here come the Billfish, more Yellowfin and Longfin Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin-fish. The "Muff Diver" will be charter sportfishing until the mid to end of October from Ocean City, MD.
As you will find throughout the day, the Mate will be a most helpful and knowledgeable member of your team. TIPPING is CUSTOMARY and EXPECTED. It should be based upon your discretion. The usual range is between 15-20% of the trip cost. Your tip will be greatly appreciated and is well deserved for long hours of hard work by the mate.
Just in case the weather is bad the day of your charter (the Captain will make the final determination about this), you may receive a refund of your deposit or re-schedule your trip for another day.
Reservations and Deposits are required. Bay trip deposit of $200.00 per-day and an Ocean trip of $400 is necessary to confirm a reservation and must be received ten (10) days after the reservation is made or the day becomes available to the general public - we will not hold a requested day any longer than 10 days without a deposit.
There are no deposit refunds other than for bad weather or boat breakdown. Please insure when you book and send us the deposit that you have collected from your friends, in advance, so the responsibility is theirs and not yours and the trip can proceed as planned because the all monies have been collected.
We are licensed to carry six (6) passengers - please don't ask us to take more. DRUGS ARE NOT TOLERATED! You are WELCOME on the bridge as long as YOU ARE SEATED. The salon is AIR CONDITIONED.
We sincerely hope the information will be helpful to you and that we have the chance of sharing all the attractions of our "neck of the ocean" with you. May Your Lines Always Be Tight!
